One of our children broke the bowl to my previous food mixer 18 months ago. It was 23 years old and had cost me £25 and was very basic and flimsy, but I've missed it. To say this is an upgrade is an under-statement of the highest order.
The AEG Ultramix is gorgeous. It's all metal, with stainless steel bowls and coated dough hook and flat beater, and a lovely big wire whisk. I have the AEG Ultramix in Tungsten Grey, and it is also available in Red.
Here's our 2 minute video showing you around the machine and letting you see and hear it in action...
This feels like such a strong machine. It has a big 1000 watt motor and wobbles a bit when it has a full loaf on the dough hook, but is so chunky and firm I'm confident it'll last until my Grandchildren are making bread for me.
The bowls are so large (4.8l and 2.9l) that I can easily bake for our family of 8 in one go, (small bowls have really infuriated me over the years), and the attachments can be adjusted so that even the tiniest amounts will be mixed in the specially shaped bowl.
We tested ours by making bread rolls and Lemon Cake as shown in the video. The Lemon Cake recipe was a simple sponge (as in this Benny the Spaceman LEGO cake recipe) flavoured instead with 3 teaspoons of lemon essence, and the bread recipe was from the side of the packet of flour!
Using the machine is incredibly intuitive. It's super simple and self-explanatory. It's also incredibly quick and after only 5 minutes use, it's great to have something so simple to clean.
I love my new food mixer and I'm excited about using it. I'm looking forward to trying yorkshire puddings, meringues and whipped cream - I just hope our waistline can take it!
