Dr Beckmann are well-known for their fabric stain removers, but they'll also look after the appliance that cleans your clothes. Limescale, mud, soap residue and all kinds of nasties lurk in the crevices and pipes inside your washing machine, making it smell unpleasant and even marking clothes. They also clog up your washing machine and cause breakdowns.
My tap water is incredibly soft. Limescale isn't an issue, but peat is and I have to clean my washing machine regularly or I end up with dirt-stained clothes. Dr Beckmann Service -It Washing Machine Cleaner is my usual choice and they've just reformulated their ingredients to include Active Carbon. The active carbon has a huge surface area and clings to dirt like a magnet, removing more grime and making your machine even cleaner.
Dr Beckmann sent me a bottle of the new formulation Service-It Washing Machine Cleaner with Active Carbon so I could test it for myself. A complete clean is really easy and barely interrupts your day...
Start by removing the detergent drawer. Pour 50ml of Washing Machine Cleaner liquid into 4 litres (about 7 pints) of water to soak your drawer. You aren't making souffle, so slightly rough measuring is fine. Leave that to soak for about 30 minutes.
Take a little of the Washing Machine Cleaner on a soft cloth and wipe round your door seals. No surprises that I always find plenty of peat mud in mine. Rinse that by wiping with a fresh damp cloth.
After it's 30 minute soak give your drawer a wipe and a rinse and see that difference! Replace it in the machine and then pour the rest of the bottle of Dr Beckmann Service-It cleaner into the detergent section.
Select a 60 degree wash without pre wash. Don't add any washing or detergent to the machine - just close the door and run it on empty.
You can notice the difference immediately as it has worked on smells, dirt and limescale, but it's hidden inside the machine where it'll make most difference, removing built-up grime and deposits and extending the working life of your washing machine.
I am impressed. There's no smell from my machine and some really stubborn stains which have been there for years have gone, so the new formulation is definitely beating the previous one!
Dr Beckmann Service-It Washing Machine Cleaner costs a mere £2.99 rrp and Dr Beckmann products are available at all major supermarkets, so there's really no excuse. You can find out more about the entire Dr Beckmann range on the Dr Beckmann website.
