We were recently sent the ZEROWATER 12 Cup / 2.8l Jug to review. This is a jug with a combined 5 stage ion-exchange water filter to remove all kinds of dissolved solids from your water before you drink it - and it fits neatly into the door pocket of a fridge. It also has a TDS (total dissolved solids) meter included, so you can see how effectively it works.
As soon as you open the packaging, you see an important message - the filter should be replaced once the meter registers 6 or more.
The jug is in 3 parts, with a sealed lid and separate water refill reservoir. This means that while the filter is in action, you can already be pouring the water which has passed through, and you can also top up the jug while it already has filtered water inside.
There is a filter included, and refills are available singly, or in various multibuy bundles for better value. Also included is the TDS (total dissolved solids) water quality meter. It's incredibly easy to use - just press the button and immerse the bottom 2cm or so into the water.
Fitting or replacing the filter is very easy. It screws onto the reservoir, and then sits neatly in the jug.
Replace the lid and you are ready to pour through the little automatically opening spout, or use the button at the base of the handle to release the water via a tap - ideal if you can't lift the full jug or want to use it without removing it from the fridge.
There is also a space in the lid to store the TDS meter - it pops out if you don't press it into place firmly, which my kids think is hilarious.
And does the filter work? Yes! It really does. Our water did indeed register zero, after initially being much better than I'd suspected at 46 - which means I should expect to get at least 150 litres of filtration from my filter before it needs replacing. The ion-exchange filter takes out minerals, salts and metals, and our water has historically been very heavily contaminated with peat, so I was expecting a higher reading initially. There are videos online of people turning all manner of coloured liquids into clear water, so my 'test' really turned out to be a very easy one!
The filtered water does taste 'fresh' and is great to drink, and the 29.5 x 15 x 28 cm (L x W x H) jug sits really neatly in my fridge. My tap water quality is very good, I'm lucky, but other people not so much. The filter removes almost all lead, chromium, flouride, chlorine and other metals, salts and minerals from your drinking water, outperforming leading brands.
"The FDA requires the TDS level in PURIFIED bottled water to reach 000-010ppm. ZeroWater is the only filter in its class to achieve this level. ZeroWater's first layer of filtration, activated carbon and oxidation reduction alloy removes the chlorine taste you are accustom to with tap water.
The Ion Exchange stage removes virtually all dissolved solids that may be left over from public water systems or even leached into your water from piping such as Aluminum, Lead, Zinc, Nitrate and more. Three additional stages are included to remove other contaminants and to ensure your water receives the appropriate amount of treatment time to deliver a "000" reading on your water quality meter."
The ZEROWATER filter jug is incredibly user-friendly - having chilled filtered water available literally 'on tap' without the chlorine taste we are used to in the UK is great - and anything which encourages us to drink more water is a good thing. It isn't a cheap option, but the quality is all there, and the price of replacement filters compares well to other high quality brands.
Our ZEROWATER 12 cup / 12.8l jug (with free TDS meter) costs £39.99, and replacement filters start at under £11 each. Many different options are available, including several smaller jugs and sports bottles. Find out more on the ZEROWATER website, where you will also find special offers and bundle deals.
This is a great jug. We have one and use it a lot during the summer months. Out water is awful straight out of the tap so this really does make a difference. x
ReplyDeleteOoh that's good to know. I usually keep fresh water in the fridge in Summer, and it's such a great size for a family. Sorry your water is horrible- but glad this works to fix it!
