On Angel Wings Children's Christmas DVD Review And Giveaway

To launch this year's Christmas Present Giveaways I have a Children's Christmas DVD. On Angel Wings is a new release from Kaleidoscope films. Based on the book by Michael Morpurgo (the author of War Horse) it retells the Christmas Nativity story as seen through the eyes of a child, Amos.

Voiced by a great cast including Sir Michael Gambon and Juliet Stevenson, Dominic Cooper and Colin McFarlane, On Angel Wings was aired last Christmas on BBC1 for the first time, and from November 2nd this certificate U film is yours to own on DVD and Digital Download.

Amos is grown up now, and takes his own grandchildren up on to the hills to retell the story of what happened to him when he was a child. He was left to watch the sheep while the other shepherds went to follow the star, but the Angel Gabriel hoisted him into the air and took him to the stable, and he became the first visitor to greet the Baby Jesus.

The animation is stop-motion, which works very well as there isn't a great deal of movement and the film is mainly about listening to and watching the characters. The illustrations are very soft and rounded, and the faces are warm and friendly.

Children's Christmas Nativity DVD Review On Angel Wings

All of the characters in the film are very 'normal' - children bicker and argue, and Amos doesn't say anything deep when he visits Mary and Joseph, he just makes the usual sort of comments anyone would about a baby. It makes this 28 minute DVD very watchable, and even my teenagers joined us.

Whether you believe the Nativity Story is true or not, it's a huge part of Christmas tradition and a reminder that we should all be more grateful for what we have. On Angel Wings is a nice gentle movie which is perfect for a snuggle on the sofa with your children during the dark Winter evening.

My fave I played was the inn keepers wife :) I got to play against the cutest boy in school and chase him with a broom for turning away the poor pregnant lady and her hubby and I eventually found them a space to sleep in the barn :D (Ellie Spider for gleam as it signed me in as Eloise for some reason today)
