Stoopido From Drumond Park Family Game Review And Giveaway(8+)

Drumond Park are releasing some new games this Autumn, and we've been sent an advance copy of one of them, Stoopido, to review. Released on 29th August, Stoopido is a family game for 2-4 players aged 8+, and quite rightly describes itself as 'the game of 1000 silly faces'.

When you open the box you have an entire dressing up box full of mask parts and it does take a little putting together, so allow 10 minutes before you start.

The main feature of Stoopido is the glasses. Each player has a pair of red glasses. They are really well made and sturdy, and more comfortable than I expected too, with slots and loops to attach the facial features...

The facial features are printed onto 6 sheets of quite thin glossy card. They're really varied and unusual, with aliens and monsters alongside slightly more regular characters.

The features slot in or hook onto the glasses, and it works very well. There are small plastic fixings which you have to put on before you first play - be careful not to catch any tiny bits of the card inside these, or you'll need to poke it out with a pencil or needle otherwise they don't fasten properly.

There is a special dice and the Stoopitoot squeaker (which is pretty annoying in the hands of a 6 year old). The last item in the box is a Stoopido selfie prop, so that you can humiliate the losers using the power of social media...muhahaha.

Players all start the game with a plain pair of red glasses, and everyone takes part throughout, taking it in turns to roll the dice. The result of the dice roll decides what happens next:

If Nose, Eyes, Ears or Hat are rolled, the first player to touch the corresponding 'Slap Pad' wins the round. They can then take one of those Stoopido pieces from the pile and add it to the glasses of any player who doesn't already have that facial feature (ears are added in pairs, but don't have to match). If every player already has that feature, you can remove it from your own face and place it back on the table.

If you roll Glasses then the player to your left can pick any facial feature you don't have and place it on your glasses.

If you roll Stoopitoot then the first player to grab and squeak the Stoopitoot can choose to either pick any feature and add it to the glasses of any player, or take a feature from their own glasses and place it back on the table.

Once your glasses are full then you are out, and the game ends when only one player is left without a full face of Stoopido features.

Our almost 8 year old thought Stoopido was brilliant. He and his 6 year old brother had a whale of a time and really laughed. Actually quite quick, and increasingly difficult to see once you have all the attachments on your glasses, this is a novelty game and was very funny - mainly due to everyone's incompetence at slapping the right pad quickly.

I think grown up players will enjoy Stoopido for the opportunity to let go and have fun, but really the main market will be the 8-12 year olds, who will adore it.

Stoopido is designed for age 8+, our 6 year old was a bit rough, so I think possibly if you are looking for longevity you are best off playing with more mature players. He was able to understand the rules, but more interested in laughing at what everyone looked like!

Stoopido is available from August 29th rrp £17.99. For stockists, and to play games online, go to the Drumond Park website, where you can also find a more grown up games forum at Not So Quiet Night In.

Drumond Park have kindly offered a copy of Stoopido for one of my readers. Entry to the giveaway is by Gleam form below, and it is open to UK entrants only. The giveaway will end at midnight Sunday September 4th.
