Zuru Smashers Epic Dino Egg Review (with giveaway) Age 5+Sent by Zuru Toys and Smyths Toy Superstores

The newest release from Zuru Toys is the Smashers Epic Dino Egg. This gigantic surprise-filled dinosaur egg has been flying off the shelves in Smyths Toy Superstores and is bound to be a huge hit this Christmas.

We've teamed up with Smyths and Zuru, who have sent us a Smashers Epic Dino Egg plus some of the regular series 3 Dino Smashers to review - and if you are reading this before midnight Friday 27th September, I'm giving away a £25 Smyths voucher on my Facebook page so that one of my readers can buy their own Zuru Smashers Dino Egg goodies in store (the Epic Dino Egg is currently reduced to £19.99 at Smyths Toy Superstore as I am typing this).

Dino are the 3rd series after Sport and Gross. The Smashers Epic Dino Egg is MASSIVE. It really looks an impressive present and the images on the back of the packaging just add to the excitement.

It says it has over 25 surprises inside, which is a huge number and we were keen to see what was included. Not as heavy as you might expect and no giveaway noises coming from inside...

The egg 'breaks' apart into 4 pieces. It's pretty tough, so press the sides to 'pop' it open more easily. Inside the Zuru Smashers Epic Dino Egg was a big plastic bag filled with loads of goodies. It's a bit like Pinata but quicker, and no-one gets whacked in the face.

Inside the bag were several smaller bags and Smashers Eggs, plus instructions and a little scratch off map to follow to collect dinosaur pieces and make your Ultimate Smash-o-saur.

You have to smash, fizz, dig, slime and build in order to collect all of the Smash-o-saur Dino pieces. Ours is the Triceratops, Fossil Rock (there are 2 others available).

We got the first pieces in the Dino Dirt - kinetic sand which is great to play with, never dries out and comes in a resealable bag for storage.

You can already see just what the Triceratops is going to be like. More cartoon than scary, solid, strong and quite a good size!

Next up - a Bath Bomb! or Fizzy Lava...

Wow! What a beauty is this. Bomb to Nought in under 90 seconds. Left behind were these 4 cute little dino feet. It does make the bath look like orange juice, but thankfully doesn't make your skin orange too.

Next up - Glowing Slime. It is fantastic slime and very gooey. The green colour really sets it off well...

And does it glow-in-the-dark? You bet! It's really excellent and glows beautifully after only a couple of minutes under lights. We were all very impressed.

Next up was the Fossil Rock. Use the special hammer type tool included to bash and scrape the plaster to release your dinosaur bones.

The final step on the map is the Ice Age Putty. This has turned out to be my son's favourite element to play with afterwards.

Handily, although this isn't in a resealable bag, you also have storage in the form of an egg. It's a brilliant touch that you don't need to find your own airtight containers for anything included in the Epic Dino Egg. It's lovely putty with glittery stars and sparkles.

Our finished Triceratops, Fossil Rock, is awesome. He's not incredibly good at posing for photos, but my son is delighted with him.

As well as the 6 Dino Smashers Eggs included in the Epic Dino Egg, the boys were also each sent an 8 Series 3 Dino Smashers Pack - which they were really excited to open and see who they have for their collection.

Each egg is created from 6 carefully shaped pieces, and when you throw or drop it, it'll fall apart. It's an interesting touch - my boys certainly enjoy it! The 'nest' from our Epic Dino Egg is really helpful for rebuilding the eggs.

There are over 100 different characters to collect - we have mainly dinosaurs, skulls and cavemen.

The 8 Dino Smashers Pack has 2 loose Smashers, 6 Smashers Eggs with mystery Smashers inside, and a collectors guide. One of the Smashers in each of these packs is a special Dig & Find Surprise Fossil. They are very cute.

You can see how the eggs work, how to open and rebuild the Epic Egg and the smaller Smashers eggs, as well as take a look at all of the contents of the Epic Egg in our short video...

We are really impressed. The Zuru Smashers Epic Dino Egg is a brilliant way to bring together all kinds of interesting toys and tactile play elements. You can even introduce science and history and make this a learning tool. The Smashers are good fun and fair value, and when you rebuild an egg there's an immense sense of satisfaction!

Smashers Eggs are available in single and multi packs with up to 20 Dino Smashers (currently £19.99rrp £17.99 in Smyths). TheSmashers Dino 8 Pack (with the Dig & Find Surprise Fossil) is currently £7.99rrp and the Epic Dino Egg £25rrp and it's reduced at time of typing to £19.99 in Smyths Toy Superstores. Excellent value.

If that isn't Smashing enough for one day, you can find videos, activities, downloads and more on the official Smashers website.

  1. I'm not sure I'd pay full price for this but I may well take advantage of the offer at Smyth's! Looks like great fun for an activity to keep the kids occupied on Christmas Eve!

    1. It is easily enough to keep them going for several hours, I'd say most of a day. We split it up and opened different parts on 2 different days, but the boys must have filled 6 hours easily with playing with the different items inside - they didn't squabble either! :)

  2. Could you please tell me how you can get these sent to you for review?

    1. Yes. You simply start a blog, review your own toys, then if you become well known enough, and do a good enough job, companies will approach you and ask you to review things for them. Best of luck :)

  3. I think Dino egg should give more surprise

    1. I think because it's a more expensive item, people aren't willing to take a big risk on what they're buying. A couple of little surprise items would be nice, and there is variation in which particular thing you get - e.g. different dinosaurs - but I see your point.
